Responsibilities


The City Income Tax Division is responsible for collecting Middletown's local income tax. City Tax personnel can also provide assistance by explaining the Middletown income tax requirements.
  
The Income Tax Department is open from 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday.
    
2021 Tax Return Deadline is April 18th, 2022.  

Middletown's Tax Rate increased to 2.0% as of 1-1-2021. 

Extended Hours:
Saturday, April 9th: 8am - 12pm
Wednesday, April 13th: 8am - 6pm
Thursday, April 14th: 7am - 6pm
Friday, April 15th:  CLOSED (holiday)
Monday, April 18th (due date): 7am - 7pm

PLEASE HAVE A PRINTED COPY OF YOUR W2 AND YOUR FEDERAL 1040.  We cannot print your information for you.


***As of 4/1/22, there will be a fee of 2%, or a minimum of $1.50, applied to all credit/debit card payments.***


TAX RETURNS ARE NO LONGER MAILED OUT.  
Generic forms are accepted.
You can come into the office with your W2s and federal schedules and we can prepare your return.
You can download the forms from the income tax department website.
You can call the tax office at 513-425-7862 and request a form.
Or you can use the fillable PDF available on the income tax department website, print it and mail it in with your attachments.

2016 Interest Rate for Tax Year Beginning On or After January 1, 2016 is 5% per annum (0.42 per month)

2017 Interest Rate for the Tax Year Beginning On or After January 1, 2017 is 6% per annum (0.50% per month)

2018 Interest Rate for the Tax Year Beginning On or After January 1, 2018 is 6% per annum (0.50% per month)

2019 Interest Rate for the Tax Year Beginning On or After January 1, 2019 is 7% per annum (0.58% per month)

2020 Interest Rate for the Tax Year Beginning On or After January 1, 2020 is 7% per annum (0.58% per month)

2021 Interest Rate for the Tax Year Beginning On or After January 1, 2021 is 5% per annum (0.42% per month)

2022 Interest Rate for the Tax Year Beginning On or After January 1, 2022 is 5% per annum (0.42% per month)
  
These rates are being published in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 718.27(F) which states that “By the thirty-first day of October of each year the municipal corporation shall publish the rate described in division (A) of this section applicable to the next succeeding calendar year”. This rate does not apply to tax balances for any prior tax years, regardless of when they are filed, which are still subject to the interest rate of 1% per month as stated in 890.10(a) of the City of Middletown Income Tax Code covering tax years beginning prior to January 1, 2016.
