Great Miami River Recreation Trail

Thanks to grants from Middletown Community Foundation, Barnitz Fund, Arthur Harvey Foundation, Clean Ohio Trail Fund and other donors, Middletown has 6.8 miles of bike/hike path already in use.
This year, another 2.2 miles of path building is in the works which will take Middletown’s portion from SR 4 to Miami Park on SR73. Still a small gap will remain between the Middletown and Franklin parts of the trail.

With a few more miles to go, The Great Miami River Recreation Trail (GMRRT) will one day be one continuous trail for 90 miles from Fairfield in Butler County to Sidney in Shelby County.  Over 55 miles are completed, another 20 are funded and in various stages of planning. The longest unfinished and unfunded segment is between Middletown and Hamilton. The Hamilton Community Foundation has pledged to assist in funding a portion of that gap.

Since few will want to attempt the entire 90 miles of the trail, the shorter segments offer an opportunity for exercise, a change of scenery, fresh air and sunshine. On any nice day, it is easy to spot hikers, bikers, skaters and joggers enjoying the trail along the Great Miami River.  Many stop to rest at Bicentennial Commons at Carmody Blvd and Central Avenue where the benches, historic timeline and commemorative bricks offer a nice reprieve from exercise.
