Lt. Owens handles most of the daily operations. He will review thousands of police reports a year and assign more that 1500 to his staff of 19 for further follow-up.
The Detection section staff includes:
- Six General Assignment Detectives - assigned any adult crime ranging from thefts to acts of violence.
- Four Special Operation Detectives - work in plain clothes and are generally assigned drug complaints.
- Three Juvenile Detectives - assigned crimes where a juvenile is the victim or the perpetrator.
- One Records Clerk - process paperwork and a plethora of other tasks as needed.
- One Polygraph Examiner
- One Traffic Accident Investigator - responds to any fatal or serious injury accident; also is assigned hit-skip accidents that were not solved by the street officer.
- One Community Resource Officer Assigned to HUD - works closely with HUD to deal with special problems associated with our housing projects.
- One Crime Prevention Officer - holds Community Watch meetings and coordinates educational programs.
